2016 Manhole Rehabilitation Project <br /> The City has over 7,400 manholes within its sanitary sewer collection system. The manholes <br /> provide access for maintenance. The two predominant materials used for construction are brick <br /> and precast concrete. <br /> The 2016 Manhole Rehabilitation Project is to repair structural deficiencies that have been <br /> identified with a minimum disruption to service, disturbance to the surface, and budget impact. <br /> Structural deficiencies within manholes include missing grout and bricks, broken or missing <br /> concrete, voids/holes with soil visible and inflow & infiltration. The project locations were <br /> identified from the manhole inspection program conducted in the City's sanitary sewer system. <br /> The manhole rehabilitation process involves the application of a sprayable grout called "gunite" <br /> specially formulated for the reconstruction of manholes. The liner is installed at a designed <br /> strength and thickness for the diameter and surface loading at the manhole to provide full <br /> structural rehabilitation. Prior to the application of the gunite the manhole is power washed, and <br /> all voids and active infiltration is plugged. The gunite process takes a fraction of the time, <br /> disturbance, and cost of replacing the manhole. <br /> The 2016 Manhole Rehabilitation Project will line approximately 950 Vertical Linear Feet <br /> (VLF) at 108 locations. The work also includes cleaning, liner testing, and traffic control. <br /> Project Bid Review <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by Engineering Division staff. The project <br /> was advertised August 29, 2016 and bids were opened on Thursday, September 22, 2016. Culy Contracting, Inc. provided the lowest, <br /> qualified bid at 22.57% below the engineer's estimate. Culy Contracting, Inc. is a women <br /> business enterprise (WBE) located in Winchester, Indiana. Culy has not completed work for the <br /> City in the past but has completed similar manhole rehabilitation projects for Fort Wayne, IN, <br /> Columbus, OH, Mascoutah, IL, Knoxville, TN and many other cities within the Midwest. <br /> �2� <br />
