� 4 18. (a) No building hereafter erected shall be occupied or used, in wlzole or in part, until a certificate of occupancy shall have been issued by the Building Official certifying that such building conforms to the prov isions of this ordinance and to the Zoning Ordinance of the City. (b) No buildin g, hereafter enlarged or extended, or so alter- ed, wholly or in part, as to change its classificatio n and no build- in g hereafter altered for ��ich a certificate of occupancy has not been theretofore issued, shall be occupied or used, in whole or in part, until a certi�icate of occupancy shall have been issued by the Suilding Official certifying that the work for which the permit was issued has been completed in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance; providecl, that if the occupancy or use oi` such building was not discontinusd during the work of alteration, the occupancy ' or use of the building shall not continue fox more than thirty (30) days a�ter completion of the alteration unless such certificate shall have been issued. (c ) In addition to the certification as to compliance vrith the provisions of this ordinance, the certificate of occupancy shall state the purposes for which the building may be used in its several parts, the maximum permissible live-loads on the several floors, tne number oi �ndividual persons that may be accoimnodated in the several floors, in case such number is limited by a provision of la�v or by the permit, and all spec�al stipulations of the permit, if any. (d) Upon request of the holder of a permit, the Building Offi- cial may issue a temporary certificate of occupancy for part of a building for a period not exceeding six (6 ) months provided that such temporary occupancy or use tivould not jeopardize life or property. (e) n certificate of occupancy shall be issued within five ( 5) days after written application therefor, if the building at the time o£ such application shall be entitle d thereto. Copies oF certifi- cates of occupancy shall be furnisheci on request to persons having a '�i proprietary interest in the building. 'I (f) Nothing in this ordinance shall require the removal, altera- tion or abandonment of, nor prevent tYn continuance of the use and oc- ,, cupancy of a building Ia wfully existin g at the effective date or this I orc�inance, except as may be necessary for the safety of Iife or pro- perty. Upon written request irom the owner, the Building Official shall issue a certificate of occupancy �or an existing building certiPying, aPicer verification by inspection, the occupancy or use of such building.
